welcome to the student leadership selection process!
juilliard’s leadership positions provide students with a great opportunity to build leadership, communication, and advocacy skills, develop your ability to work within a team, foster confidence, help others, create community, and form relationships with your peers across juilliard’s three divisions. we are pleased that you have taken the time to consider one of these leadership positions. whether you become an orientation leader or a diversity advocate, we believe these important leadership positions will supplement your artistic and academic pursuits by providing you with challenges, successes, group interaction skills and personal growth opportunities.
how to apply
to be considered for a student leadership position, you must do the following:
- the 2021-2022 online application will open on friday, december 4th, 2020. complete the online application by february 17th, 2021 at 11:59pm est.
- this includes a resume and essay questions.
- A recommendation form from a non-family member is optional.
- attend one of the group process sessions taking place in early march. there will be more information to come via email when these events get closer.
- have an interview with professional staff members during designated times. you will be emailed a link to sign up for your interview time.
we expect to send out offer letters by end of april 2021. all student leaders who accept their offers will need to attend a spring training workshop. information will be provided by the supervisor of your position when your spring workshop will take place.

campus activities board (cab)
the campus activities board (cab) functions as a student-run programming board with advisement from the office of student affairs. cab works collaboratively to develop and plan programming to enhance student life for the juilliard community. through social and educational programs, outings, and larger campus traditions, cab works to increase community on campus. cab is responsible for planning both small and large campus-wide events throughout the year.
diversity advocate (da)
diversity advocates (das) work with the office of international advisement to address issues of diversity and inclusion which impact the juilliard community. through cultural and educational programs, community forums, and informal interactions, das work to educate the larger campus community on issues pertaining to diversity, culture, internationalism, and social justice. das help to create a safe space in which potentially sensitive or uncomfortable issues can be discussed and addressed while also creating an environment in which diversity and culture can be celebrated and enjoyed.
first-year experience coach (fye-coach)
first-year experience coaches work with incoming first-year, first-time students over the summer and throughout the fall semester to assist in their successful transition to life at juilliard. fye coaches work over the summer to provide guidance, support, and mentorship to assigned sections of incoming first-year students and facilitate virtual community-building activities and opportunities related to the juilliard thrives well-being dimensions (community, career, social, physical, emotional, financial). during the fall semester, fye coaches assist with the overall implementation of the first-year experience course, a required 1-credit course for all first-time college students. fye coaches work with an assigned faculty mentor to facilitate group activities and discussions. the course is designed to introduce students to the juilliard community and fundamental resources designed to support their personal growth and artistry. fye coaches will develop meaningful relationships with students, gain practical mentorship experience, receive specialized training in order to carry-out duties successfully, and develop a more holistic understanding of their own unique mentorship style.
hall coordinator (hc)
hall coordinator for housing and desk operations
the hall coordinator for housing and desk operations (hc) is a paraprofessional staff member who lives in the meredith willson residence hall and serves to provide administrative and operational support to the office of residence life. the hc reports to the assistant director of residence life.

the hall coordinator for wellness and community development (hc) is a paraprofessional staff member who lives in the meredith willson residence hall and serves to provide administrative and operational support to the office of residence life. the hc reports to the assistant director of residence life.
orientation leader (ol)
orientation leaders (ol) mentor new first-year and graduate students during new student orientation. the ol is a student leader who closely assists new students and their families to become acclimated to the juilliard school and the larger new york city community. ols are role models, advisors, friends, but most of all, they are students who care about the growth and development of incoming students. orientation leaders will participate in comprehensive training to gain skills necessary to serve as a resource for students and family members.
resident assistant (ra)
the resident assistant (ra) is a paraprofessional staff member who lives on an assigned floor in the meredith willson residence hall and serves as a role model, peer counselor, resources and referral person, advocate, policy enforcer, programmer and leader for residents on the assigned floor. the ra assists with daily emergency coverage rotation. the ra also plans and implements social and educational programs. the primary goal of the ra position is the development of an environment conducive to the academic, artistic and personal growth of residential students. the ra reports to the assistant director of residence life.
